Ford Expedition :
The 2006 Ford Expedition is a 4-door, up to 9-passenger sport-utility-vehicle. The Expedition continues for 2006 with only minor changes and the same choice of rear- or four-wheel-drive versions. It is available in no less than six trim levels, topped by the King Ranch model.
Upon introduction, the XLS 4X2 and the King Ranch 4X4 are equipped with a standard 5.4-liter, V8, 300hp engine that achieves 14-mpg in the city and 19-mpg on the highway. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard. In-between trim levels include XLT, XLT Sport, Eddie Bauer, and Limited. The XLT offers comforts like a rear air conditioner. The XLT Sport version adds tubular step bars and a revised grille. The Eddie Bauer model adds more features like leather upholstery, automatic climate control, and an in-dash six-disc CD changer. The Limited adds eight-way power front seats with heating and cooling.
The Ford Expedition's fully independent suspension and rack-and-pinion steering system provide solid handling. The ride can be somewhat harsh on rough roads, but overall, it's a comfortable cruiser. The engine is extremely smooth, quiet and rich in midrange torque. The Expedition is capable of towing up to 9,000 pounds.
Expeditions seat anywhere from seven to nine passengers. Choosing bench seats for the first and second rows and the optional third-row seat expands seating capacity to nine. The interior is well-thought-out, with plenty of room for passengers and their belongings.
The Ford Expedition received double five-star ratings in front crash tests performed by the NHTSA. It is a solid choice among full-size SUVs.
